Favorite Fiction

I just love a good fiction novel. I can remember countless hours of my childhood curled up on a patch of sunshine on the shaggy carpet of our family room floor and getting completely lost in a good story. Although these days I seem to have less time curled up with a physical book (note to self: make some more time for this!) I have listened to some amazingly narrated audiobook ficture. Here are some of my recent favorites that are A+++. Enjoy!

I would love to hear your favorites ~ I’m always looking for a great story.

Beautiful Ruins

This book is set in the Italian coastline and is a beautifully crafted novel with complex characters.

“But I think some people wait forever, and only at the end of their lives do they realize that their life has happened while they were waiting for it to start”

Water for Elephants

I stumbled on this book in the bookstore and am so so glad I did. This is a heartwarming story of a young man as he navigates life in the circus. There is such a richness in the characters that you really feel like you are living in the circus with them. Touching and beautiful.

Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime

This story is narrated through a boy named Christopher who has high functioning autism. The premise is around Christopher investigating the cause behind the death of a neighbor’s dog. The book is funny and engaging. Since I see a lot of kids in clinic with autism, I felt like I had a peak of their world through this character’s eyes.

Before They Were Yours

This novel was so sad and beautiful at the same time. It is based on real life historical events about an adoption agency that kidnapped and sold poor children to wealthy families across the country. It’s a story of sibling love that is beautifully written and poignant.
